| Justin Morgan's breeding was never substantiated,
but there are a number of theories. Some say he had Arabian blood, others
think he descended from a Friesian import, and yet another says he was sired
by a Thoroughbred named True Briton. Whatever his breeding, Justin Morgan
proved to be a prolific and potent sire, and it is said that most of his
offspring inherited his qualitites. |

Today's Morgan is lighter in build than Justin Morgan was,
but it is still a versatile breed. The Morgan is used at harness, dressage,
hunter/jumper, reining, English Pleasure, and many other disciplines. The
Morgan is also a highly attractive breed, frequently possessing thick mane
and tail, an arched neck and a chiseled head. Some Morgans are also "gaited,"
meaning they posess four-beated gaits similar to a fast walk, in addition
to the traditional walk, trot, canter, and gallop. |
