| Miniatures are usually classified into two size
categories. The division A Miniatures are 34 inches and under, and division
B Miniatures are between 34 and 38 inches. Generally, the smaller Miniatures
are more desirable. Although diminutive in size, they are hardy horses and
are highly economical to keep compared to ponies and full-sized horses.
Miniatures come in all colors imaginable for a horse, with pinto and appaloosa
coloring being the most popular and commanding the highest prices. |

Although Miniatures are too small to be ridden except for
children under 60 pounds, they are frequently trained to pull small, 1-2
person carts. Some owners also train them for conformation, hunter/jumper,
halter obstacle, and costume competitions. All of these competitions are
performed with the owner leading the Miniature on a halter or a bridle.
Recently Miniatures have begun to be trained as Seeing Eye Horses for the
blind, and so far this program has reached a good deal of success and has
a long waiting list of people desiring trained Seeing Eye Miniatures. |
