The Fjord is an ancient breed of horse, possibly dating back
4,000 years, and originates from Norway. It's believed to be descended from
the Mongolian Wild Horse (Przewalski's Horse), and could also be related
to the Tarpan. The Fjord is one of the very few modern breeds to exhibit
primitive colors and markings. They are most commonly dun in color, have
a dorsal stripe that runs from its forlock down to its tail, and sometimes
even has the primitive "zebra" markings on its legs. Although
short (usually between 13 and 14.1 hands), the Fjord is very sturdy with
good bone and can carry adult riders as well as children. |
