The Andalusian is descended from the Barb horse from the North
West African deserts and the Sorraia, a primitive breed of rare horse from
Spain. When the Andalusian itself became a rare breed, it was preserved
by the Carthusian monasteries in Jerez de la Frontera, Cordoba, and Seville.
Like the Arabian and the Barb, the Andalusian has made one of the greatest
influences on the modern-day horse breeds, including the famous Lipizzaners
at the Spanish Riding School of Vienna, the Friesian, Paso Fino, Peruvian
Paso, Quarter Horse, Appaloosa, Mustang, and many other North and South
American breeds of horses. |
