| Curly horses were first discovered in the U.S. in the deserts
of Nevada in a herd of wild Mustangs. The Damele family saw these horses
and captured them. They then crossed these mustangs with other breeds such
as Arabians, Morgans, and Quarter Horses to improve their quality. The American
Bashkir Curly was born! |

The American
Bashkir Curly Horse Registry was founded in 1971, and today there are
approximately 2000 Bashkir Curlies in the U.S. and Canada, and their numbers
are growing. The Curly pictured here sure was an attention getter! |
